Kia ora koutou katoa,

Māori Land Court Hearing Timetable Application for Removal of Committee – Neil Te Kani

The Māori Land Court has now timetabled a hearing in relation to an application filed seeking the removal of Mr Neil Te Kani as a Committee Member of Mangatawa Pāpāmoa Blocks Incorporation under Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993.

Hearing date: 4-8 May 2026
Location: Tauranga.

This application arises from a series of governance matters considered by the Committee in the course of carrying out its responsibilities for the proper governance and administration of the Incorporation, including his management and oversight as the then Chair of the incorporation’s former Chief Executive Officer.

These matters required extensive Committee involvement and the discharge of the Committee’s statutory and constitutional responsibilities under the Mangatawa Constitution and Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 to act in the best interests of shareholders and to ensure the proper governance, protection of assets, and continued functioning of the Incorporation.

In July 2025, the Committee passed a formal vote of no confidence in Mr Te Kani, unanimously supported by all other members of the Committee of Management.

In August 2025, the Committee of Management resolved 6-1 in favour of filing an application in the Māori Land Court for the removal of Mr Neil Te Kani as a Committee Member.

The Court will now consider the application and make a determination. No decision has been made at this stage, and Mr Te Kani remains a Committee Member unless and until the Court orders otherwise.
