Governance Update from the Committee of Management

Tēnā koutou e te whānau,

As we prepare for our 2026 Annual General Meeting, we are looking forward to welcoming our shareholder whānau home.  To come together as whānau, to reflect on the year that has been, and importantly, to celebrate what we have achieved together.

There is no getting around the fact that this has been a tough year for everyone. We have worked through some significant challenges that have demanded considerable time, energy and resource, and a fair amount of fortitude from us all.

Through it all, the mahi of Mangatawa has carried on.

We have kept a firm hand on our finances, rigorously reviewing contractual arrangements, cutting unnecessary and inefficient spending, strengthening accountability and being disciplined in the commercial decisions we make.

The result is an outstanding financial performance, achieved in a year when it would have been very easy to be distracted from the mahi in front of us.

These results belong to us all. They are something we should be proud of and something worth celebrating together.

Every dollar we protect and grow ultimately belongs to our people, and with that comes a responsibility to manage it well. Strong financial performance gives us choices.  The ability to invest, to create opportunity and to think beyond today to what we want Mangatawa to be for our mokopuna.

But our success has never been measured by financial return alone.

This year has also seen a renewed focus on te taiao and the regeneration of our whenua. We are putting greater care and resource into restoring what has been depleted, protecting what remains and looking further ahead to the whenua we will leave for those who come after us.  That balance is important.

Commercial strength gives us the means to do more for our people. Kaitiakitanga keeps us connected to the source of that prosperity – our whenua.

2026 Committee Election

Shareholders will be aware that the Māori Land Court has directed that the election of two members to the Committee of Management, originally scheduled for the AGM, be deferred to a Special General Meeting on Saturday 12 December 2026.

The AGM will otherwise proceed as planned.

Our focus now is on preparing for the election at the SGM and ensuring shareholders have clear information and every opportunity to participate in the election of their representatives.

Changes to the Committee

The terms of Nathan Olsen and Neil Te Kani come to an end at the conclusion of the AGM.

The Committee will therefore continue with five members until two members are elected by shareholders at the SGM on 12 December.

A Fresh Call for Nominations

There will be a fresh call for nominations for the two positions to be filled at the SGM.

Serving our people around the Committee table is a privilege and an important responsibility.

Mangatawa carries significant commercial interests and assets, but at the heart of every decision are our people, our whenua and the generations who will inherit what we leave behind.

We would particularly welcome nominations from shareholders and whānau who bring financial, commercial, investment, business or governance experience and want to bring those skills home in service of our people.

If that sounds like you, or someone in your whānau, we encourage you to put a nomination forward.

Further information about nominations and the election process will be provided shortly on our website and socials.

Our 2026 Annual Report

Our 2026 Annual Report will also be arriving with shareholders shortly, and there is much within its pages for us to celebrate.

You will see the strength of our financial results, the mahi happening across our business and the work underway to restore and regenerate our whenua. But we have also made space to tell some of our story.

Mangatawa has  given much to the growth of the city around us. Our Annual Report reflects on some of that history and honours the contribution our whenua and our people have made over generations.

Those stories sit alongside our financial accounts because they are all part of who we are.The value of Mangatawa has never simply been what sits on our balance sheet.

It is our whenua. Our whakapapa. Our people. It is the legacy handed down to us, and the responsibility we carry to those still to come.

After the year we have had, there is something particularly important about coming home, sitting together and remembering what connects us.

There will always be challenges. There will always be different whakaaro around our table. But Mangatawa is bigger than any one of us, and our greatest strength has always been what we can achieve when we move forward together.

So this AGM is also a time to celebrate; our people, our whenua, our business and an exceptional year of achievement.

We look forward to welcoming you home next Saturday.

Mā te kotahitanga e whai kaha ai tātou.

Ngā mihi nui,

Pirihira McMath
Chairperson, Committee of Management
